ESTA application refused: what are the reasons?

When applying for ESTA, it is possible that the application will be denied. The conditions for granting such an authorization are particularly strict and if only one of the conditions for acceptance is not met, the request is refused.

In order to do everything possible to ensure that this authorization is accepted, it is important to know the conditions for granting this authorization:

• The applicant must be a national of one of the VWP participating countries;
• The stay must be for tourism or business purposes;
• The planned stay must not exceed 90 consecutive days in the United States;
• The applicant must not have a mental disorder or contagious disease, must comply with all applicable rules and laws, and must not have visited Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen or Libya since March 1, 2011.

Once these conditions have been met, it is possible to apply for ESTA authorization with complete peace of mind.

Recourse in case of refusal of the ESTA

If your ESTA is denied, no U.S. embassy or consulate will be able to tell you the reason for the denial;

If you notice an error on the form, it is possible to make a new ESTA application. You will have to pay the $21 ESTA fee again.

If no errors are found, you will have to apply for a U.S. visa at the U.S. Embassy and fill out the appropriate forms and pay a higher fee.
