Since September 2010, ESTA applications have been a fully paperless, fee-based process. This means that filling out the mandatory ESTA form, the validation of the application by the US Homeland Security and the sending of the document are all done online, from the Internet. Is there a free ESTA authorization?

Despite what you may read on the internet, there is no such thing as a free ESTA. Since May 2022, there is a minimum fee of $21, plus an additional fee for additional services, such as assistance.

The $21 collected is used to help fund the ESTA program, established by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the promotion of American tourism internationally.
